MATH 120 Course Syllabus - SPRING 2013

Course Description:  The course offers an introduction to the basic concepts in statistics. Topics include the role of statistics, data summary, normal distribution, elements of probability, and computation of mean and variance. This course will also include an introduction to statistical estimation and inference. Effective From: Spring 2012

Prerequisites:  None.

Textbook:  Statistics. Concepts and Controversies, 7th Edition by David S. Moore, William I. Notz, W.H. Freeman and Company New York © 2009, ISBN: 1-42922-991-8.

Grading Policy:  The final grade in this course will be determined as follows:

Your final letter grade will be based on the following tentative curve. This curve may be adjusted slightly at the end of the semester.

Drop Date:  Please note that the University Drop Date March 26, 2013 deadline will be strictly enforced.

Homework Policy:  Homework will be assigned in class.

Quiz Policy:  A quiz will be given every class.

Attendance:  Attendance at all classes will be recorded and is mandatory. Please make sure you read and fully understand the Department’s Attendance Policy. This policy will be strictly enforced.

Exams:  There will be one midterm exam and one comprehensive final exam during the semester. Exams are held in class on the following days:

Makeup Exam Policy:    No make-up quizzes or EXAMS will be given.  In the event the Final Exam is not taken, under rare circumstances where the student has a legitimate reason for missing the final exam, a makeup exam will be administered by the math department. In any case the student must notify the Math Department Office and the Instructor that the exam will be missed and present written verifiable proof of the reason for missing the exam, e.g., a doctors note, police report, court notice, etc., clearly stating the date AND time of the mitigating problem.
