MATH 238 Course Syllabus - FALL 2012

Math 238:  General Calculus II

 

Number of Credits:  3

 

Course Description:  This course is intended for students who are not in Science or in Engineering and is a continuation of Math 138. Topics include applications of integral calculus and an introduction to ordinary differential equations.

Prerequisites:  Math 138 with a grade of C or better or Math 111 with a grade of C or better or Math 132 with a grade of C or better.

Grading Policy:  The final grade in this course will be determined as follows: 

Weekly Quizzes:

15%

2 Midterm Exams:

25% each

Final Exam:

35%

 

Drop Date:  Please note that the University Drop Date Novemeber 6, 2012 deadline will be strictly enforced.

Calculus:  Calculators are NOT PERMITTED in this course.

Homework Policy:  Homework problems will be assigned in class. There will be a quiz on the first class of each week covering the material from the previous week.

Attendance:  Attendance at all classes will be recorded and is mandatory. Please make sure you read and fully understand the Department’s Attendance Policy. This policy will be strictly enforced.

Exams:  There will be two midterm exams and one comprehensive final exam during the semester.
The final exam will test your knowledge of all the course material taught in the entire course. Make sure you read and fully understand the department's to Examination Policy. This policy will be strictly enforced. Please note that calculators, cellular phones, beepers, and all other electronic devices may not be used during any exam.

Makeup Exam Policy:    No make-up quizzes or EXAMS will be given.  In the event the Final Exam is not taken, under rare circumstances where the student has a legitimate reason for missing the final exam, a makeup exam will be administered by the math department. In any case the student must notify the Math Department Office and the Instructor that the exam will be missed and present written verifiable proof of the reason for missing the exam, e.g., a doctors note, police report, court notice, etc., clearly stating the date AND time of the mitigating problem.
