Many mixed boundary value problems occuring in problems of scattering of surface water waves can be formulated in terms of integral equations. Of the many possible integral equations, for the same scattering problem, integral equations with a "weak singularity" are shown to be best-suited both for analytical as well as numerical evaluation of quntities of practical interest in the various wave problems. Specific examples are taken up to explin the approach.
