Title: "Evolving Robots to Study Adaptive Behavior"

Abstract:

I will introduce the field of Evolutionary Robotics (ER). In ER, investigators attempt to evolve the body plans and controllers of robots to perform desired tasks, rather than the traditional approach of training robots with a fixed body plan. I will describe a few projects my own group that illustrate how this approach has scientific benefits as well as engineering benefits. I will conclude by demonstrating 'Ludobots', an online course that enables anyone to evolve their own robots.
