Title: "Physics of and with Nonlinear Waves - Why They Matter"

Abstract:

The study of nonlinear waves after a century of sluggish progress is now a vibrant area of research in mathematics, physics, and engineering. The focus is primarily on solving the right continuum equations as accurately as possible. Here we take a different approach - probe these waves in discrete systems and let the numerical solutions to the appropriate physics based equations tell us what the waves must be. The journey has been filled with surprises. These waves can be manipulated, squeezed, replicated, decimated and even combined! We will talk about some of these exciting developments.
