An important goal of the program is to establish strong educational and research linkages between the graduate programs of the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas (FCEx) at Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (UNCPBA, Argentina) and the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT, USA). The initial stages of the program development are being supported by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, under its Fulbright Foundation program.

A main part of this initiative is to formulate a collaborative program between the two institutions that will facilitate the enrollment of students from one institution into the graduate program of the other one. These students will be supervised jointly by advisors from DMS-NJIT and from FCEx-UNCPBA. In addition, this initiative will lead to strong interaction between the advisors and to the development and coordination of their respective research plans. This interdisciplinary mentoring of the students by the advisors who have backgrounds in mathematics and in the natural sciences, and come from different countries, will benefit the students by widening their scientific and cultural horizons.
