" What is "Carrier-Grade" Reliability in Voice over IP? "

Major telecommunications providers have announced plans to introduce Voice over IP (VoIP) technology into their networks, augmenting or replacing circuit-switching. Compared to the maturity of circuit-switching technology, VoIP is still evolving and poses significant performance and reliability challenges. In this talk, we consider how to apply traditional (and yet sometimes only fuzzily understood) concepts of telecommunications reliability to problems in designing and planning VoIP networks.
